Violin Tendencies

Violin Tendencies: Trills, Taps, and Twangs

Violin Tendencies might be the first Silicon Valley Rocks! band to predominantly feature a violin player. The resulting sound is eclectic, ranging from cowpunk to electrified folk to 70s/80s covers. Think GWAR meets Willie Nelson, minus their weird faces.

The band has been playing together for the last five years. Matt, Eric, and Alison met at a Blue Bear School of Music band workshop—immediately bonding over a Claremont College connection and Matt’s pink guitar. After discovering at a New Years’ party that they were both musicians, Matt’s friend Sarah joined, changing the tone of the band and contributing to its name. Greta was the latest band member to join with her perfect pitch, beautiful harmonies, and rocking keys. And, just for Silicon Valley Rocks!, Greg Studley (also of House of Floyd) is joining in the fun. Greg was one of the Open Source Band members.

Everyone’s day jobs vary. Sarah is a digital content strategist for a bank that’s trying to be cool in Palo Alto. Matt lives in a wireless age and has a day job with the League of Justice. Alison Murdock is a chief marketing officer and founder of Silicon Valley Rocks! Eric is an educational psychologist at SFUSD and spends his day grappling with the fallout of teenage social media angst. Greta works at UCSF, is an artist, composer, curator of local artists and also past co-producer of Silicon Valley Rocks! Greg is a content developer at Ubisoft, and he is regularly composing, transcribing, and arranging guitar and bass music for Rocksmith.
